Who were the Decembrists, what did they represent, and what happened to them?
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary. The Decembrists were supporters of liberal reforms in Russia during the reign of Nicholas I. They attempted to get the army to revolt against the Tsar, and demand a Russian Constitution. Nicholas learned of the conspiracy, crushed the rebellion, and deported or killed all involved. Although their plot was not successful, they survived in Russian political mythology as the first revolutionaries.
