The first type of error results from skip-counting incorrectly. Students may either forget a number or switch from one series to another while counting. The second error pattern is one in which answers are consistently off by one count-by number. Quite often, the cause of this error is that the student says the number for the first group and then begins counting as opposed to touching and counting simultaneously. The third type of error occurs when students confuse the addition and multiplication signs. The fourth type of error occurs when students confuse regular single-digit multiplication and missing factor multiplication.
