How can the mixing of fresh and salt water be considered stored solar energy? Explain
What will be an ideal response?
The world's fresh water comes from evaporation of salt water. Solar energy is
necessary for evaporating that water from the ocean. When the salt water mixes with fresh
water, some of that solar energy is recovered (some solar energy went into gravitational
potential energy, and that was recovered as the water fell as rain.

For the stem of the total hip replacement we discussed in Section 14.3.3, assume that the hip replacement is to go into a lightweight, frail person, and therefore the weight of the stem is critical. Use the data in Table 14.14 to determine the material with the highest relative merit for this application.
