Describe the structure and limitations of a guyed monopole.

What will be an ideal response?

Guyed monopoles usually have four guy wires set at right angles to one another around the pole for support. The height of a guyed monopole is limited by the weight of the wind turbine it must support against the force of the wind. 10 kW machines are the largest that can be placed on this type of tower. Guyed monopoles can be permanently fixed, rigid installations or they can be a tilt-up style tower that can be lowered to the ground for maintenance on the wind turbine. Rigid guyed monopoles must be climbed to service the wind turbine at the top, or the service person must be lifted to the turbine with a crane. Rigid monopoles and tilt up towers require a wide area of ground space for anchoring the guy wires and for lowering the tower. If the tower is installed at a residence, the guy wires should be clearly marked so that they are not a hazard to anyone walking near them.
