How might joint design influence welding cost?

What will be an ideal response?

Almost any weld can be made in any material in any position. A number of factors can affect the cost of producing a weld. Joint design is one major way to control welding cost. Changes in the design can reduce cost yet still meet the weldment's strength requirements. Reducing the groove angle can also help. It will decrease the welding filler metal required to complete the weld as well as decrease the time required to fill the larger groove opening. Joint design must be a consideration in order for any project to be competitive and cost effective.
