Why should whole class writing go through the entire writing process?
What will be an ideal response?
Although it is good for students and teachers to write together, but by completing only one draft, they are not sharing the entire writing process. Such extensive writing is not always the focus of writing to students or independent writing by students; however, it needs to be a strong focus when you are writing with your students. It allows them to see that the need for change does not mean the writer was not good enough or did something "wrong." Revision is part of the writing process—especially when writing is being prepared to be read by others. Using too much one-draft writing does not allow children to develop the evaluation skills that will transfer into all other aspects of their lives. However, revision does not always have to be laborious or take a long time.
