Discuss the geologic features that form when divergent plate boundaries occur in a

continental setting. What will be an ideal response?

The best example of a continental rift zone is the East African Rift. In this area, the
lithosphere has been thinned causing melting and volcanism. Normal faults commonly
occur in this environment. The crust is commonly elevated due to high heat flow. With
continued rifting the continental crust may be separated and a thin segment of ocean crust
may form.
