Discuss some guidelines for providing instruction in listening.
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Instruction in listening must first address the communication needs of students where they are having difficulty in understanding what is said. The instruction should also involve modeling and direct instruction of specific listening strategies along with opportunities to practice those skills. The application of the listening strategies should include a variety of contexts. Listening instructional strategies should also be a part of all communication arts programs, interdisciplinary, and reach across the curriculum. Differing listening behaviors within diverse cultures should also be addressed.
