Explain synchronous and asynchronous communication in relation to e-learning.

What will be an ideal response?

E-learning is an umbrella term and broadly refers to any learning facilitated using electronic means. E-learning can capitalize on a variety of delivery media depending on the approach taken.
Collaboration and communication during an e-learning experience may be synchronous or asynchronous. The former refers to real-time or live communication using tools such as messenger services or video conferencing. These virtual classrooms operate in much the same way as traditional classrooms would.
However, not all collaboration can occur in real time, especially if learners are geographically dispersed across different time zones. While asynchronous communication still makes use of the Internet, communication is delayed, and learners access the learning spaces at their own convenience.
