DVD movies are stored in a format that most video editing software cannot directly manipulate. DVD data might also be encrypted to protect it from illegal copying. DVD ripping and decryption software can convert and decrypt data from any DVD you insert into your computer's DVD drive, and then copy it to your computer's hard disk. In some countries, video decryption is illegal, so make sure your activities conform to local laws.

If your cell phone can sync with your computer using a cable, then you can probably transfer videos using such a setup. Otherwise, you can e-mail the video from your phone to your computer. When the video arrives as an e-mail attachment, you can save it as a standalone file. Most mobile phone videos can be viewed with a standard media player, such as QuickTime or Windows Movie Player.
