Compare the predictability of CSMA/CD with token-based approaches.

What will be an ideal response?

CSMA/CD allows multiple stations to transmit simultaneously (and possibly collide).
Token-based approaches such as Token Ring allow only one station at a time to transmit, so
there can be no collisions. With the collision-based approach, the frequency of collisions
tends to increase with the load on the network. Thus, as the load increases, the chance that a
transmission will be successful decreases and transmission rates become unpredictable.
Therefore token approaches are more predictable than collision approaches. A token approach, though, has the disadvantage that on a lightly loaded network a station ready to
transmit still has to wait for the token to arrive, whereas in a collision approach the station
may begin transmitting immediately.
