What is a Type I error and what is a Type II error? Give an example using a counseling psychologist and a client who comes to talk to the psychologist

What will be an ideal response

Finding what is not there, a false positive, is a Type I error. A counseling psychologist might, for example, know the characteristics associated with a given mental disorder. But the psychologist might misdiagnose a given individual saying that the person has the disorder when in fact the person does not. A false negative, not finding what is actually there, is a Type II error. For example, a psychologist might misdiagnose a given client and think that the client does not have a given psychological problem when, in fact, the client does.
