A patient is brought into the emergency department with severe whiplash. He is not breathing and has lost cardiac function. What part of the brain has most likely been damaged?

Ans: As the person have suffered from whiplash which is the most common type of the neck injury in a person that arise due to the motor vehicle accidents. It is the traumatic brain injury. Generally the parts of brain close to the point of impact are damaged, mainly the frontal lobe and the temporal lobe.
However as per the symptoms are concerned i.e. the person is not able to breathe and has lost the cardiac activity, the Medulla oblongata might have been damaged due to the impact as this controls the reaspiration and heart rate. This might have occured due to the blunt end trauma in which the part of brain opposite to the point of impact is damaged.
