Podcasting makes it possible for anyone who can create audio or video recordings to host their own show on the Internet by syndicating the multimedia content to subscribers. Discuss the process of creating podcasts.

What will be an ideal response?

Creating podcasts requires basic equipment for recording and editing digital audio and video. Most laptop computers have built-in Webcams and microphones, as well as recording software that you can use to create audio and video files for podcasting. You also may use additional hardware to create the multimedia for your podcast episodes.

Creating video requires a video camera or a Webcam to record the video. Creating an audio file requires a voice recorder or headset with audio recording software on your computer to create the audio. These devices can connect directly to a USB port on your computer, enabling easy transfer of the multimedia files for later editing.

Once you have created an audio file, audio-editing software, such as Audacity for Windows, or GarageBand for Mac can be used to edit the file. After a video is recorded, you can import the video into an application such as Windows Movie Maker, or iMovie on the Mac to edit it.

Just as television and radio broadcasts have short introductions that make them recognizable as part of a series, consider adding a short audio or video clip to append at the beginning of each podcast episode. Also consider creating a short clip with credits or a link to the podcast's Web site at the end of each episode. This helps to make a podcast episode recognizable as one episode of a podcast series.

After creating the audio and video files, you will need to save them in a compressed
format for distribution. If the application that you are using to edit the multimedia does
not support saving the files in the desired format, you will have to convert the files from
one format to another. A Web-based service such as Zamzar allows you to upload files and convert them to an alternative format that you specify. Because podcast files must be saved in a compressed format, you might convert the WAV audio format to MP3 or the WMV video format to MP4. Once the files have been converted, you are ready to upload them to your blog host, a podcast application, or a Web server.
