In an earlier historical period when such things were shameful or banned, couples would sneak to "adult bookstores", often located on the edges of towns, to purchase vibrators and other sex toys. Today, these items are more mainstream and available from numerous online stores and are even sold in certain urban shopping mall stores.
In short, over time sexual behaviors once seen as abnormal shifted into the mainstream to become part of what ordinary people practice in their intimate relationships, including oral and anal sex. A change in demographics and sexual norms created a true challenge to sexual science, medicine, religion, government, and society.
Here, the individual's search for pleasure and sexual freedom began to change as social and cultural rules and laws reflected a new self-awareness and social discipline of sexuality.
