Explain why PCP was thought to be a useful anesthetic and why this use failed to be practical for humans
What will be an ideal response?
Physiologically, PCP was safer than most anesthetics—no respiratory depression, wide safety margin. However, psychological reactions were unpredictable. Some patients' behavior became troublesome as they came out of the anesthesia, exhibiting manic behavior. It was reported that about 15 percent of patients experienced feelings of unreality, depersonalization, persecution, depression, and intense anxiety that lasted up to four days.
