Describe the Community Policing Self-Assessment Tool and its benefits
What will be an ideal response?
CP-SAT is an online measurement system for agencies to track their COPPS efforts over time. It assesses the agency's COPPS practices, both within and outside their agency. It is scientific and easy to use. CP-SAT is organized into three modules:
1 . Community partnerships: This module measures the extent to which agency staff support and develop collaborative relationships among individuals and organizations in the community.
2 . Problem solving: This module measures the agency's commitment to crime and disorder. General questions are posed concerning agency problem-solving processes, and problem-solving skill levels are examined.
3 . Organizational transformation: Here, the extent to which the agency environment, personnel, practices and policies are supportive of COPPS philosophy and activities is measured. Specifically, it measures: (1) agency management, (2) organizational structure, (3) personnel practices, and (4) technology and information systems.
This information is provided to the chief executive, and it allows him or her to establish a baseline of COPPS practice, monitor its implementation across ranks over time, and identify COPPS' relative strengths and areas for improvement.
