Describe the causes and effects of diabetes insipidus. What will be an ideal response?
Concepts to Consider: Diabetes insipidus can be caused by an insufficient production of
antidiuretic hormone (ADH) by the pituitary gland. It can also result from an acquired
insensitivity of the kidney to ADH. Water is not efficiently reabsorbed from the ducts, so
large volumes of urine are produced. The affected individual becomes dehydrated and must
drink almost continuously to replenish the fluids lost.
