How does the selection process of the State Board of Education make it likely that debates over the K–12 curriculum will be intense and repeated often?

What will be an ideal response?

The fifteen members are elected in partisan contests, representing geographic districts, and are not allowed to be a part of the education industry. This means that the Democrats and Republicans who serve on the board will have to make decisions on the scientific, political, historical, and cultural values Texas children are taught. The two parties have divergent views on a number of controversial issues, and when discussing the curriculum, middle ground may be hard to find.
