Define forensic science and discuss how forensic analysts use technology to help solve cases more efficiently.
What will be an ideal response?
Forensic science is the use of scientific techniques to investigate questions of interest to the justice system and to solve crime. Forensic scientists perform comprehensive chemical and physical analyses on evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies. It provides for accurate and scientific development and examination of evidence. Without forensics, evidence may go undetected or be undervalued. The more accurate and finite results bolster case credibility and may serve to support or erode probable cause, resulting in more certainty in court findings. Forensic science covers a broad range of topics and a forensic analyst can be a generalist or an expert in a specific topic like toxicology or blood spatter. Adding certainty to some cases is another reason why forensic analysis is helpful-consider people who had been prosecuted and convicted in the past and DNA evidence does not hold up the conviction. Forensic analysis has allowed innocent people to be released from prison.
