Productivity is the capacity of a comparison to bring to mind unexpected new ideas that go beyond the points of comparison initially mentioned. One possible pair of examples: My first day of boarding school was like a trip to a foreign country-lots of new and unfamiliar things to try to understand, including the school's whole set of rules of conduct and its unique student culture. My first day at boarding school was a trip to the mall-lots of new things to see.
