Discuss some of the effects of child abuse on the victim, include the effects of the physical, psychological, and behavioral.

What will be an ideal response?

The effects on a child vary depending on the circumstances of the abuse or neglect, personal characteristics of the child, and the child’s environment. While some effects can be severe and long lasting, it is important to note that children can and do go on to live healthy and productive lives. Child abuse and neglect can have a multitude of long-term effects on physical health. These include seizures, paralysis, and mental and developmental delays. The longer the abuse continues, the greater the effect it has on the child. Some of the psychological disorders associated with child abuse and neglect are eating disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and conduct disorder. There is an ongoing body of research that has focused on the behavioral effects of child abuse and indicates that the victimization of children has grave social consequences. Among other things, child abuse appears to have a significant effect on criminal behavior.
