Pretend you are in charge of developing programming for the prevention of child maltreatment. Briefly describe a program that you believe is aligned with the public health framework. Describe at least three different aspects of the proposed program and how they relate to a multifaceted public health approach.
What will be an ideal response?
If I were to develop a prevention program for child maltreatment that aligned with the public health framework, I would first focus in on acute individual family need. I would incorporate evidence-based programming such as parenting classes and support for young mothers. Next, I would focus on environmental and neighborhood factors, and implement after-school programming for youth, as well as low income, or income-based child care. Finally, I would focus on the policy level by advocating for paid family leave and increased minimum wage so that socioeconomically deprived parents would have more resources and opportunity to spend quality time with their children and experience less stress.
