Describe how wire stick-out affects the quality of a GMAW weld.
What will be an ideal response?
Stick-out, or determining the length that the electrode sticks out past the contact tip, seems like a simple task. Nevertheless, this parameter affects the weld variables greatly. The standard stick-out is from 1?2 to 5?8 inch (6 mm to 9 mm). As one can see from the chart in Figure 05-59, increasing the stick-out length will decrease the penetration and bead width, while increasing the deposition and bead size. By decreasing the stick-out, the opposite will happen.
