What will be an ideal response?
• Kinicki and Kritner posit that decision makers in organizations take on differing styles of decision making.
• Individuals who are directive make decisions and announce them, are highly task oriented, and have a low tolerance for ambiguity. Individuals who have a more open decision-making style might nonetheless be directive if subordinates are inexperienced, not committed to the goals of the organization, or reluctant to participate in the process.
• Decision makers with an analytical style have a high tolerance for ambiguity and tend to overanalyze situations. They take time to make decisions and seek as much information as possible. Given an analytical decision maker has carefully invested in a decision, he or she will be direct and autocratic implementing the decision.
• Conceptual decision makers work well with people and rely on discussion with others to consider the problem and possible solutions. They also consider several options as well as future possibilities.
