Distinguish between plankton, nekton, and benthos and give an example of each

What will be an ideal response?

Plankton and nekton are marine organisms associated with the water column in contrast to benthos which are marine organisms associated with the ocean bottom. Starfish are an example of benthos. Plankton are water column organisms that cannot swim against a current; they drift with the winds and the ocean currents. Jellyfish and floating macrophytic seaweeds such as Sargassum are examples of planktonic organisms. Like plankton, nekton are marine organisms that live in the water column; nekton can actively swim against a current. Organisms like tuna, squid, and marine mammals are examples of nekton.
