How can corporations ensure that sufficient steps have been taken to create a CR strategy that can be incorporated throughout the organization in a meaningful way?
What will be an ideal response?
One way is to introduce a central CR function, with a senior manager given the role of chief sustainability officer (CSO), or a similar title, put in charge of implementing the CR program. Additionally, the firm should identify an external measurement standard that it can use, under the guidance of the top CR manager, to develop a code of conduct and a basis for benchmarking the firm’s CR performance. While installing a top manager such as a CSO to oversee the CR program is a necessary part of the process, it is insufficient without buy-in at other levels of the organization. For this reason, educating employees about CR concepts is crucial as they relate to the firm’s business practices and stakeholders. Across all levels of the company, employees must understand the vision, core values, and code of conduct associated with the CR initiative.
