There are a number of federal and state laws that deal spe-cifically with in¬formation given on la¬bels and pack¬ages, including the Fair Packaging and La¬beling Act of 1966. The information on such labels must be truthful.
A number of federal and state laws deal specifically with the information given on labels and packages. In general, labels must be accurate, and they must use words that are easily understood by the ordinary consumer. In some instances, labels must specify the raw materials used in the product, such as the percentage of cotton, nylon, or other fiber used in a garment. In other instances, the products must carry a warning, such as those required on cigarette packages and advertising.
There are also state and federal laws that prohibit unfair and decep¬tive advertising, including labels. These laws include the Federal Trade Commission Act of 1914.
