What is autobiographical memory and how does it manifest in middle childhood? Why is it better in middle childhood than early childhood?

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Autobiographical memory is memory for experienced events in which the child participated. It becomes particularly strong during middle childhood at the offset of infantile/childhood amnesia (by age 3–5 years). Over time, the most distinctive aspects of events are retained, while less distinctive details may be forgotten. Also, over time, details of these memories seem more difficult to access (require greater cuing). Memories are likely better organized and recalled when they are of distinctive experiences. Middle childhood is characterized by greater attentional abilities, organization, and executive control, all of which could aid autobiographical memory.
