An agreement by two or more persons to commit a criminal act or to accomplish a legal act by an unlawful means. Under modern penal laws, individual members of the conspiracy are bound by actions committed by the others and may be held criminally liable as soon as one of the conspirators takes an overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy such as purchasing the weapons to be used in the proposed crime.
