Find good maps of several midsized European cities, and deduce the historical development of the cities based on their street patterns, arrangement of open spaces, boulevards, parks, and so on
Consider the differences between the medieval and Renaissance-Baroque landscapes for your interpretation.
In general, examining maps of European cities will identify some correlations: medieval cities—or those portions of cities that were founded during the medieval period—will be densely settled, and green or open spaces located near churches and public squares; Renaissance-Baroque cities will exhibit wider streets, large gardens, monuments, and more open spaces; and industrial cities will not have walls or fortifications, but will have clusters of factories and industrial areas—often built on the edge of the city—and possibly urban sprawl.
