Temperament refers to a person's behavioral style and characteristic way of responding (e.g., easy children have a positive mood, establish routines quickly, and adapt to new experiences; difficult children react negatively, have aggressive tendencies, lack self-control, and are slow to accept new experiences; slow-to-warm-up children have low activity levels, are negative, and display a low intensity of mood). Teachers can take these differences into account during teaching by (a) showing attention to and respect for individuality, (b) considering the structure of a student's environment, and (c) being aware of problems that can emerge because of the use of temperament labels.
