Who benefits most from discovery and why?

What will be an ideal response?

Discovery should benefit the defense more than the prosecution. After all, the prosecution presents the state's case against the defendant; it is only sensible that the defense should
learn the nature of the prosecution's case. Generally, though, the prosecution has the most information of both parties because it has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant committed the crime. The defense, by contrast, only needs to raise reasonable doubt in the minds of the jurors that the defendant did not commit the crime.
