• Doing good and preventing harm
• Following standards of practice when working with clients. Moreover, reporting clients’ intent to kill themselves if a suicide assessment indicates that it is appropriate
• Nonmaleficence
• Not inflicting harm
• Avoiding practices that go beyond the standard of care and that are outside of one’s scope of practice
• Autonomy
• Respecting freedom of choice and self-determination
• Giving clients informed consent about your philosophy of counseling and the interventions you aim to use.

• Treating clients fairly in regards to time, payment, and effort
• Fidelity
• Faithfulness or honoring commitments and promises
• Following through with your responsibilities to the client, such as not abandoning him or her
