What is the purpose of Levene’s F?

What will be an ideal response?

SPSS produces both pooled variances and separate variances tests. It is necessary for the researcher to decide which set of results to use. This is accomplished by examining Levene’s F statistic. Levene’s F is a test of similarity between the variances. The null hypothesis states that they are equal. If the p value for Levene’s F is found to be less than .05, the null of equality is rejected, and the separate variances values should be used. If the p value is less than .05, the null is retained, and the pooled variances values should be used.
