What does the field of environmental health encompass?
What will be an ideal response?
The field of environmental health assesses the risks of both natural and human-made environmental hazards, and how these hazards can potentially influence human health and quality of life. It seeks to prevent adverse effects on human health and on ecological systems essential to environmental quality and long-term human well-being. These hazards can cause acute and/or chronic symptoms. Acute (large dose with rapid onset of effects) symptoms are relatively easier to identify and to tie to a specific cause. It is much more difficult to trace the causes of chronic symptoms (low doses over a long period of exposure), which tend to be the impacts of the majority of environmental toxins.
