For B.F. Skinner, learning was a product that could be promoted by teachers who provided the right incentives and motivation. This general approach came to be known as behaviorism. Behaviorists believe that all learning is shaped by the stimuli in the environment and that free will plays no role in the process. Using the behaviorist approach, teachers structured their lessons around clear objectives that stated what students would be able to do by the end of the lesson. Social cognitive learning theories take into account both the learner's own mental processes and the social environment in which the learning occurs.
