Explain how hematopoietic malignancies cause immunosuppression and how many

treatments for malignancies also cause immunosuppression.

What will be an ideal response

Hematopoietic malignancies in the bone marrow are generally rapidly dividing and consume the space and
nutrient resources in the bone marrow such that the replication of normal cell lines is reduced. This reduction in
normal cells lines is responsible for the immunosuppression observed upon initial diagnosis of many hematopoietic
malignancies. In addition, many therapies for malignancy target rapidly dividing cells, so replication of normal cell
lines is again reduced.
