Explain the structure and functions of the arteries

What will be an ideal response?

Arteries are blood vessels that move blood away from the heart; they usually carry oxygenated blood. Pulmonary arteries are an exception to this pattern; they carry deoxygenated blood. The arteries have thick walls made up of an outer connective tissue layer, a middle layer of elastic fibers and smooth muscle, and an inner layer of endothelium.
