Describe the distinction between macronutrients and micronutrients. Give several examples of each, and describe their importance
What will be an ideal response?
Macronutrients, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur, are elements needed in relatively large amounts by photosynthetic organisms. Micronutrients, such as iron, copper, and zinc, are needed in small amounts. Without sufficient amounts of all of these macronutrients and micronutrients, growth would be limited. For example, the chlorophyll molecules needed for photosynthesis contain nitrogen and magnesium, and a plant would be limited in its photosynthetic capabilities if nitrogen and/or magnesium were limited.
