Discuss how child-rearing contributes to the reproduction of class status.

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: Varies. Lareau states that the socialization that children receive during childhood becomes human capital as a young adult when navigating their pathway in school as well as later in the job market. For example, a natural growth parenting style encourages independence in children, but also leads these children to take jobs that require respect of authority, which are likely to be working class jobs. Whereas concerted cultivation tends to give children a sense of entitlement and to pursue careers where they are negotiating with authority figures. These jobs tend to be middle-class jobs. This is how social class gets reproduced.
