ADU stands for auxiliary dwelling unit. These are portable homes that can be used temporarily or permanently. Also known as "granny pods," ADUs contain a number of "smart" devices that do everything from serving as virtual companions to providing knee-level lighting to reduce falls and offering ceiling mounted lifts to increase mobility. ADUs provide proximity to family, yet privacy for the resident. They encourage independence and aging in place.
