Examples of functional foods included whole foods, such as broccoli and nuts, and modified foods, such as an energy bar said to enhance memory or probiotic foods such as yogurt. Plant flavonoids found in dark chocolate improve several risk factors for heart disease. Antioxidants found in many foods combat free radicals and oxidative damage in cells.
