Define ex post facto law and explain the reasoning for its prohibition.
What will be an ideal response?
Ex post facto laws are those that make an activity a crime even if it was committed
before the law was passed. It is prohibited by the Constitution. Because a crime is defined as an
intentional act to disobey the law, and there can be no intent to disobey if the act is not against
the law when it is performed. Therefore, an ex post facto law violates the definition of a crime.
