Describe the effects crime victimization may have on an individual
What will be an ideal response?
Victimization results in financial, physical, and psychological harm to the victim. The financial costs are easiest to calculate, and often the victim will suffer longtime physical and psychological harm. Insurance may replace the property lost or destroyed in a burglary, but the feeling of vulnerability and fear may last a lifetime. Sexual assault victims may suffer the pain of
the attack, the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancy, a feeling of social shame, and the dissolution of their marriage. Effects of criminal victimization often include additional suffering at the hands of unsupportive friends and family, the news media, and the criminal justice system.
