The core principle of libertarianism is the maximization of individual freedom. According to libertarianism, individuals possess the right to do whatever they want and to use their personal property however they choose so long as they do not interfere with the freedom of other individuals or harm other individuals. Libertarians believe government should be limited to combating crime, protecting private property, enforcing contracts, and safeguarding the national defense.
