Trace the major events in Europe between 1933 and the German invasion of Poland in 1939 that led to war and discuss the reaction of the American people and their government to those events
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: When, in 1933, Hitler came to power in Germany, he renounced the Treaty of Versailles, but it provoked little reaction from the United States because of a strong neutrality sentiment. Congress responded to fascist aggression in Ethiopia and Spain as well as the German annexation of Austria and part of Czechoslovakia by passing a series of neutrality acts. These acts hampered President Roosevelt in his desire to aid the victims of aggression. In 1939, Germany's invasion of Poland marked the official beginning of World War II.
