Define selective perception and explain its significance.

What will be an ideal response?

Selective perception is the phenomenon of filtering incoming information through personal values and interests. Its significance is that it reduces the ability of the media to shape public opinion since members of the public tend to seek out and pay attention to the media sources with which they already agree and tend to disbelieve sources with which they disagree.
