Use Bandura’s concept of self-efficacy to explain Emilio’s behavior.
What will be an ideal response?
Bandura’s concept of self-efficacy is a matter of believing that one can accomplish a particular task successfully. Those with high self-efficacy are confident of completing a task successfully; those with low self-efficacy are not confident about completing a task successfully. Emilio has low self-efficacy with regards to performing his speech successfully as indicated by his fear of making a fool of himself. Bandura also suggested that high self-efficacy actually makes it more likely that a task will be completed successfully and that low self-efficacy makes it less likely that a task will be completed successfully. This is found in the case in that Emilio had low self-efficacy about his speech performance and the case describes his performance as being less than stellar (although this is just Emilio’s opinion of his performance, which might not be accurate).
