Discuss the factors that allow for an increase in stroke volume during exercise
During exercise in the upright position the muscle pump increases venous return and EDV. The increases in EDV and cardiac filling pressures increase the length of the cardiac muscle fibers, resulting in a greater intrafiber tension that results in a greater contraction force and a greater SV. There is also a reduction in ESV due to an increase in myocardial contractility.
